Why Care about Facebook?

I’ve been a PC geek since the early 1980′s, and like many geeks, I’m not particularly a “social” person. Sure, I LOVE to teach classes and work with students, but when it comes to attending events or just hanging out with people… well, I’m afraid I’d rather be in a dark cubicle with my computer!

Yes, I AM a geek!!!

But then along comes Facebook! Well now I can still act like a non-social geek, but still keep up with all my family and friends without leaving my cubicle! The socialization and sharing happen across the Web in a way that makes it easy for me to keep in touch from the comfort of a chair.

And even if you are NOT a geek, and are actually a social-person (like most normal people are), Facebook lets you share and relate to others, any time of day, regardless of the weather or anything else that might be keeping you at home versus out there socializing face to face.

And with Facebook, you can decide HOW MUCH you want to socialize and share. Perhaps you’re only interested in seeing what family and friends are doing and viewing their pictures. That’s perfectly fine! You don’t have to share a lot of your own information.
